CS371p Fall 2021: Sruthi Rudravajjala

What did you do this past week?
This past week I worked on the allocator project and attended lecture. The allocator project consumed a lot of the time I had this week but luckily my partner and I started pretty early so I wasn’t too stressed. My partner and I will submit Sunday night after writing some more unit tests and acceptance tests.
What’s in your way?
I’m a little confused about the types of iterators and found the quiz to be a little confusing this week but after doing the exercises it clarified a lot of my questions. Also, I think the grading scheme for this class is pretty confusing because we have to keep track of virtual tokens with really short deadlines for redemption. Moreover, I feel that when we forget small things on projects we are penalized very harshly, especially considering we can only use virtual tokens once in the semester.
What will you do next week?
Next week, since we will be in between projects, I’m hoping to have a light course load for this class. I’m recruiting for full time positions so I’ve been a little bit stressed juggling projects, class, and interviewing and studying for those interviews.
If you read it, what did you think of the Paper #8: Interface Segregation Principle?
The paper this week was one I read in CS 373, SWE, so it was a familiar concept. This paper was pretty dense for me to read but it covered the same kind of concepts that the previous papers covered. The ideas of encapsulation and avoiding coupled systems has been a common theme in all the papers thus far.
What was your experience of algorithms and iterators?
The iterators concepts in class were relatively straightforward but I didn’t realize there could be different types of iterators. I can’t recall what algorithms we’ve gone over in class so I should probably go back and look over my notes.
What made you happy this week?
This week I’ve been pretty busy but working outside has brightened my mood. The cooler weather and change of scenery has been really nice. I’m also looking forward to Halloween plans and having something to look forward too has been helping me get through the bog of work I’ve been dealing with lately.
What’s your pick-of-the-week or tip-of-the-week?
My pick of the week is the New York Times crossword puzzles. I recently downloaded the app and have found it really entertaining to take study breaks by doing the crossword.
