Week #3
What did you do this past week?
This past week I started working on Collatz and also juggled reading and assignments for my other classes. I had quite a few homework assignments due in my other classes so I’m hoping to use this weekend to relax a little before this upcoming week which is sure to be busy again.
What’s in your way?
I’m a little worried about how I’m managing my time. Looking ahead, I know midterms and exams for my classes are going to be stressful this semester and I’m trying my best to get ahead of them now while I have time. I’ve been having trouble keeping up with the reading for my classes because they’re so dense and I’m feeling like I’m not reading in as much detail as I should be. I’m also juggling interning part time.
What will you do next week?
Next week I’ll do some catching up on the reading for 2 of my classes. I’m also hoping to
If you read it, what did you think of the Continuous Integration?
I’ve had experience with Continuous Integration in my internships but I didn’t fully understand why that was the practice. This class is clarifying a lot of the practices I’m familiar with and providing me some context for why we do these things as software developers.
What was your experience of Collatz?
I think I understand the main expectations for Collatz but I did have trouble trying to figure out the cacheing and other requirements for the project aside from the actual code. There are a lot of turn-in requirements for this project so I’m worried I’m going to forget something.
What was your experience of exceptions?
I have used exception in CS 312 and 314 to check preconditions but never in Python. I understand that exceptions are useful for checking user input but I’m a little confused about this past Friday’s lecture. I will be going back to watch the recording to solidify my understanding.
What made you happy this week?
This week the weather was great! I got to spend quite a bit of time outside and I really enjoyed that. I also had a Pop-tart for the first time. It was pretty disappointing but I think I’ve just got to find a flavor I’ll enjoy more.
What’s your pick-of-the-week or tip-of-the-week?
My tip-of-the-week is to use GitHub for class assignments. I used it for OS but it makes working on group code assignments so much easier and I didn’t appreciate the convenience before now. I actually understand the commands and the pros of using version control and I don’t think I’ll go back to any other system of working on code with a group.
